![]() The OMB Guidelines were finalized in Febrary 2002. By October 1, 2002, each federal agency was required to issue its own agency-specific guidelines modeled on (and consistent with) the OMB Guidelines. The federal Information Quality Act directed the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to issue government-wide regulations or guidelines "for ensuring and maximizing the quality, objectivity, utility, and integrity of information (including statistical information) disseminated by Federal agencies." The law requires OMB to direct agencies to establish administrative systems whereby affected persons (essentially anyone) may seek and obtain the correction of error. ![]() ![]() Each of our separate programs is highlighted by a tab on the left. These guides are available in book form and online.Since 2001, Regulatory Checkbook has performed scholarly research on information quality regulatory science, economics, and procedure and paperwork reduction. The Center is also busy in the health care arena, publishing the Consumers' Guide to Health Plans, the Guide to Health Insurance Plans for Federal Employees, the Consumers' Guide to Top Doctors and the Consumers' Guide to Hospitals. We also produce a product price guide called BARGAINS, which tells you the best prices we have found for more than 6,000 specific models of big-ticket products-TV sets, washing machines, tires, tennis rackets, etc. CHECKBOOK has won the National Press Club's prestigious First Place Award for Excellence in Consumer Journalism. CHECKBOOK evaluates the quality and prices of local service firms and stores, such as auto repair shops, hospitals, plumbers, banks, and insurance companies. We publish Consumers' CHECKBOOK magazine in seven local versions: in the Boston, Chicago, Delaware Valley, Puget Sound, San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose, Twin Cities, and Washington, DC, areas. The Center also publishes CarDeals, a bi-weekly newsletter detailing auto rebates and incentives offered by car manufacturers. Check out our CarBargains and LeaseWise services which help consumers get great deals from new car dealers by making them bid competitively for your business. The Center provides various kinds of help to consumers who want to buy or lease a new car.
